* Originally part of Westbrook, separated and incorporated as Town of Deering February 16, 1871.
Hose 10 was originally Deering F.D. Hose Co. 4. The Town incorporated as a City in 1892.
April 12, 1889 – Town approved building a small wooden hose house on the schoolhouse lot on Main Street at Allen's Corner in North Deering, built by Burnham Lane & Company, 10 by 12 feet in plan, length 8 feet, finished with neat cornice, two windows, one door, shingled with extra cedar shingles, clapboarded with extra spruce clapboards and two coats of paint. Also, the Town purchased a two-wheel hose reel cart, carrying 450 feet of hose, built by H.K. Barnes for $43.
December 14, 1889 – Hose Co. 4 organized. The Hose house was moved closer to the street in 1896.
August of 1897 – Hose 4 was reassigned a one-horse hose wagon (old Hose 3), replacing the small hose cart. Also, a one and ½-story hose house was built on Main Street, near the corner of Maplewood, and completed in October. It was built on the same plans as the Deering Center (H-2) hose house. The small 1889 house was added to the rear of the new hose house. A house-warming was held December 15th.
February 6, 1899 – The City of Deering annexed to the City of Portland. March 21st – Deering Fire Department’s Hose Co. 4 was renumbered as Hose Co. 10 of the Portland Fire Department. Also, Deering’s Main Street was renamed as a section of Portland’s Washington Avenue (Hose 10 at #1352).
